A third card is drawn if the player or banker total is seven or higher, but not if it is eight or nine. The value of the cards is determined by a point system, with aces worth 1, 2s through 9s worth their face value, and tens, jacks, queens, and kings valued at zero. Once the initial point counts are established, the participants in baccarat can begin betting on which hand they think will win. Bets on the Player hand are paid out 1:1, while bets on the Banker hand pay out a higher percentage (but still only a 1 to 1 payout).
